Functional Blindness has more socio-economic Impact

The impact of functional blindness due to refractive error in terms of blind-person years can be staggering. A young person who becomes blind through a refractive error that is uncorrected would suffer many more years of disability than a person becoming blind in old age due to cataracts, and would place a greater socioeconomic burden on society.
