Does Malaria Affect Educational Achievement?

In Kenya, malaria morbidity accounted for 3-8% of absenteeism from school and up to 50% of readily preventable absenteeism

In the Gambia, between 1982- 1987, 1200 children aged 6mths - 5yrs were given malaria chemoprophylaxis or placebo for 3 years

Follow up tests of cognitive abilities, educational achievement and other life-relevant outcomes, were recently completed...is there any difference in outcomes between these 2 groups?

Notes

We are always looking at ways of applying knowledge to different situations. We have developed cognitive tests, and now we try them out with different infections to see which are having a greater impact
