Slide 26 of 46

Notes

Approximately 1,500 million people throughout the world are infected with one or more species of parasitic helminth. Although prevalence has changed little in the last 50 years, because of population growth over the same time period, the actual number of cases has increased dramatically. Most of the affected people are children, and most of these live in low income countries, with inadequate access to safe water and sanitation facilities.
